Regina also seems to be firing on all cylinders.
We’re both loving what we do, and using our talents to enhance the non-profit sector.
And what’s great about consulting is, we can do what we do for more than one non-profit. We can spread our talents using all the services we have to offer. We end up knowing a lot about the state of the non-profit sector in our region from our unique vantage points. And we can use our knowledge (no names!) for Good (not Evil, of course!)
SPECIAL NOTE: The Donor Bill of Rights and AFP (and GPA) Code of Ethics are our Bibles! Full stop.
I am plugged in to the grants scene in my region. So when an organization wants to start a grants program, or grow their grants initiative, or hire another grant writer, I know just how to serve their needs. I can pinpoint who is best able to serve them (sometimes it’s me) and steer them to what best meet their needs.
I can also coach or teach on grant writing, something I love to do and something I have been working on transitioning to in the past few years.
And that’s another benefit of consulting – I get to decide when and how to pivot. So I am moving more into presenting and teaching. In short, I want to share what I know and make more informed grant writers along the way.
Whether a “student” or audience member of mine wants to be a more informed grant team partner who can better serve their agency’s grant team, or they want to make grants their career, I am working to serve the non-profit sector by sharing the complexities, pains and joys of grant writing.
Even if you never write a grant proposal in your whole career, background knowledge of what a grant writer needs to know and has to go through is going to be helpful. Anyone working in any capacity with a grant writer would be served by knowing the challenges a grant writer faces, and what they have the power to help them with. That grant writer is working to make your agency more money, after all, and help YOU keep YOUR job!
As a consultant, I can spread the love, share the knowledge, pivot my business, and chart my own course. Sometimes it’s scary, of course. And if you think about how the whole business relies on one individual, it seems pretty risky. But no more risky than being in any other job, or working for any other business.
And from where I sit, being able to make my own schedule makes consulting far more attractive than working as an employee. I am happy to take your call, so if you’re a start-up non-profit and want to talk Grants, I can share tools to get you started or talk about prospecting to see what grants are out there. If you’re a larger organization and want to talk Grants, I can talk to you about coaching your program staff to become more grant-savvy, or about stepping in to get that big federal grant application out the door. I can flex and be of service in so many exciting ways, making grants less scary, more concrete and more relevant, more integrated into your development plan, and more profitable!
