There’s lots of questions and opinions swirling around these days about AI. It’s a hot topic — not just in “certain circles,” but in ALL circles, since it has the potential to effect all of us: creatives to IT and everyone in between. There’s a lot of jobs, lifestyles, and person-to-person connections on the line. Disruption City.

But it’s here; the ‘Flying Cars’ we were promised “in the 21st century” are here today in the form of AI. Now we have to get our minds around it and find out for ourselves: useful? or a fad?

I thought I would ask AI itself what it thinks its influence will be on the Grant Writing industry. It gave me a very balanced little summary. Antiseptic, but that is forgivable since this technology is in its nascence and in time I will build a relationship with it (read: give myself over to it).

Read what AI has to say on the topic:

The impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the grant writing industry has been significant and continues to evolve. As AI technology improves, it is transforming the way grant proposals are written and funded.

One of the most significant impacts of AI on grant writing is the increased speed and efficiency of the grant proposal process. With AI-powered grant writing tools, grant writers can now produce high-quality proposals much faster. These tools use algorithms to analyze large amounts of data, identify relevant funding opportunities, and generate proposals based on that data. This has reduced the time grant writers spend on research and data analysis, freeing them up to focus on other aspects of the grant proposal process.

Another impact of AI on grant writing is the increased accuracy and consistency of proposals. AI-powered grant writing tools can quickly identify and correct errors and inconsistencies in proposals, reducing the risk of rejections due to mistakes. Additionally, AI tools can help grant writers create proposals that align with the funding agency’s requirements, increasing the chances of success.

AI is also making it easier for grant writers to stay up-to-date with the latest funding opportunities. AI-powered grant writing tools can analyze massive amounts of data to identify new funding opportunities and alert grant writers to relevant opportunities. This can help grant writers respond to new funding opportunities quickly and increase their chances of success.

However, the impact of AI on grant writing is not all positive. While AI technology has made the grant writing process faster and more efficient, it has also raised concerns about the potential loss of jobs in the industry. With AI-powered grant writing tools becoming increasingly sophisticated, there is a fear that human grant writers may become obsolete.

In conclusion, the impact of AI on the grant writing industry has been significant and will continue to evolve. While AI technology has made the grant writing process faster, more efficient, and more accurate, it has also raised concerns about the potential loss of jobs in the industry. As AI technology continues to improve, it will be interesting to see how the grant writing industry adapts and evolves to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.

In this ‘adapting and evolving’ AI refers to, we grant writers will have push our creativity and our ability to use AI to our benefit — to save our jobs, to save our relevance.

Using AI within our nonprofits’ grant writing teams can take many forms, and can increase our capacity to raise money. But will jobs be lost because we can be so efficient? This is a conversation fraught with tension. AI certainly has the capacity to replace staff. And this is actually a boon to the smaller nonprofits, potentially.

It’s a ying-yang argument that I will be exploring more. I certainly can’t make up my mind until the lawyers and legislators have a crack at it. ‘Watch this space,’ as Ms. Maddow would say.
